My name is Deb Morgan and I am retired from New York State's Office for People with Developmental Disabilities in Schenectady, NY, where I spent 36 years and 8 months. (but who's counting!) We moved to Virginia because my daughter has lived here for 8 years now and well, there was no family keeping us in NY and the weather is MUCH better here in Virginia! So off we went.... When we first arrived in Chester Virginia, I immediately looked for a rescue to volunteer at. I was lucky enough to spend the next 10 months with Richmond Animal League (RAL) It was an amazing experience and I learned so much from them! I learned how a rescue organization should operate, from the kennel cleaning and spending time with the dogs, to the adoption process. It was truly an honor working with the men & women of RAL and an experience I won't ever forget.. I also worked with rescues in NY for about the last 6 years before retirement but have found myself rescuing dogs & cats my whole life. It was my dream to retire, find the right property & home and open a small dog rescue & adoption center. Well here I am in Amelia County Virginia with this beautiful 13 acre property, a nice home and lots of time on my hands! So the process began. Although I am currently running the rescue out of my home I hope to move into a recently purchased building. Funding is definitely an issue so it will be a slow process! I am committed to the homeless dogs in our county shelters. And although I know I can only make a small difference in my community, I am determined to make a difference. So as they say in rescue, 1 dog at a time!
